C-Bus System
Offline
Full Outage. Call Now.
Nothing works. Switches are dead. App can't connect. Touchscreen is blank. The entire C-Bus system is offline. This is a critical fault — either the power supply has failed, the network has a hard fault, or the controller has crashed. Every hour it remains down, the risk of cascading damage to adjacent units increases. Call now.
Are You Seeing
These Signs?
These are the specific symptoms that point to this fault. If you're seeing two or more, call now — don't wait for total failure.
- Every C-Bus switch across the property is completely unresponsive
- No LED indicators lit on any switches
- App cannot connect — controller not found on network
- Touchscreen is blank with no backlight
- System was working, then stopped all at once
- PSU enclosure is dark — no status LEDs visible
- Electrician or other trades worked on site before the outage
- Power outage or surge preceded the system going offline
What's
Actually Wrong
These are the physical causes behind this fault — in order of likelihood. We trace the root cause before any parts are replaced.
Complete C-Bus Power Supply Failure
The PSU is the single point of power for the entire C-Bus network. When it fails completely, every switch, unit, controller and touchscreen simultaneously loses power. The entire system goes silent. This is the most common cause of a whole-system offline event.
Bus Short Circuit
A short circuit on the C-Bus data/power cable — from damaged insulation, incorrect installation, water ingress, or a shorted unit — can collapse bus voltage and take the entire network offline. The PSU's overcurrent protection may trip, cutting power to everything.
Power Surge or Lightning Strike Damage
A mains power surge can damage PSU internals and connected units simultaneously. If the outage followed a storm, surge event, or power company grid fault, multiple components may need replacement.
Controller Crash — Network Offline but Switches May Respond
If the CNI or SHAC controller has crashed (firmware fault, power event), software-based control is lost but physical switches may still function. If switches work but app and touchscreen are dead, it's a controller fault rather than a full PSU failure.
What to Do
Right Now
Before we arrive — these steps protect your system from further damage.
A tripped breaker is the first thing to check. Do not reset it immediately — if there's a bus short causing the trip, resetting the breaker without finding the fault will just trip it again and potentially cause more damage.
If switches have completely dark LEDs and no tactile response, the entire network has lost power — PSU failure or bus fault. If switches have LEDs lit but commands don't work, the controller is the issue.
Power events, trades on site, storms, recent electrical work — any of these can be causal. The more context you can provide, the faster we diagnose.
A whole-system outage is our highest priority callout category. We attend with PSU replacement units, test equipment, and C-Bus Toolkit. Most whole-system outages are restored in a single visit.

Answers
My entire C-Bus system went offline at once — how serious is this?
Very serious. A whole-system offline means either the PSU has failed or there's a hard network fault. Both require immediate diagnosis. A failed PSU left in circuit (even offline) continues to generate heat and can cause damage to adjacent units. Call now.
Can a power surge cause whole-system C-Bus failure?
Yes. A significant mains surge can damage PSU internals and blow protection components in connected units. After a surge event, we test every segment and unit before declaring the system restored — not just the PSU.
How long will it take to get the system back online?
Most whole-system outages caused by a single PSU failure are restored within 3 hours on-site. If there are multiple damaged components (post-surge scenarios), it may require sourcing parts and a follow-up visit. We give you a clear scope before any work begins.
Is there anything I can do to manually control lighting while waiting?
Depending on your installation, the relay output units may have manual override switches on the DIN-rail units. These allow you to manually energise specific circuits without the C-Bus network functioning. We can advise by phone on whether your units have this feature.
