C-Bus Touchscreen
Not Working
Diagnose & Restore Today.
C-Bus touchscreen blank, frozen, or pressing without any response? C-Bus Colour Touch Screens (5080CTC series) went end-of-life from 2015–2019. The most common failure is a dead C-Bus transmit circuit — the screen displays correctly, but commands don't reach the network. Physical switches still work. Diagnosis and modern replacement options available.
Are You Seeing
These Signs?
These are the specific symptoms that point to this fault. If you're seeing two or more, call now — don't wait for total failure.
- Touchscreen display is completely blank or black — no backlight
- Touchscreen shows the normal interface but pressing buttons produces no result
- Screen is frozen on a specific page and doesn't respond to touch
- Screen intermittently goes blank then comes back — getting more frequent
- Touchscreen shows the interface but the C-Bus loads don't respond
- Touchscreen used to work on a delay — now doesn't respond at all
- Physical switches still control loads normally — only touchscreen is affected
What's
Actually Wrong
These are the physical causes behind this fault — in order of likelihood. We trace the root cause before any parts are replaced.
C-Bus Transmit Circuit Failure (EOL Hardware)
The most common failure in 5080CTC touchscreens. The touchscreen has two independent circuits: the display circuit (what you see) and the C-Bus transmit circuit (what sends commands to the network). The transmit IC fails while the display continues to function. The screen looks normal but commands never reach the network. This is an EOL hardware failure — the unit requires replacement.
Power Supply / Voltage to Screen
The touchscreen requires a regulated 9V supply from the C-Bus network bus. If bus voltage is marginal (failing PSU) the screen may power up intermittently or fail to boot. Screens going blank intermittently while other units function normally are a strong indicator of a degraded PSU rather than a screen fault.
Firmware or Network Address Corruption
Power events, failed firmware updates, or address conflicts can cause the touchscreen's internal state to become corrupted. The screen may boot to a frozen state or display an error. This can sometimes be resolved via C-Bus Toolkit connection without hardware replacement.
Touch Digitiser Failure
The physical touch digitiser (the capacitive or resistive sensing layer) can fail independently of the display and transmit circuits. The screen looks normal and commands would work — but touch input is not registered. More common in screens in high-traffic or outdoor-exposed locations.
What to Do
Right Now
Before we arrive — these steps protect your system from further damage.
If wall switches still work normally, the C-Bus network is fine — the fault is isolated to the touchscreen unit itself. This is useful information before calling.
A completely frozen screen with no touch response is different from a screen that registers touch but produces no network command. The distinction helps narrow down whether the fault is the digitiser, the firmware, or the transmit circuit.
If the screen has a functioning display and responds to touch, a factory reset may resolve firmware corruption — but it will erase all programmed page layouts and button assignments. We create a backup of the current configuration before attempting any reset.
We assess whether the fault is the transmit circuit, power supply, firmware, or digitiser. For confirmed EOL hardware failures, we'll advise on modern replacement options that integrate with your existing C-Bus network.

Answers
My touchscreen looks completely normal but pressing buttons does nothing — what's wrong?
This is almost certainly a failed C-Bus transmit circuit. The display is fine, which is why it looks normal, but the component that sends commands to the network has failed. Physical switches on the same network should still work. This is a known failure mode for 5080CTC screens at end of life.
The 5080CTC is discontinued — can it be replaced?
Yes. There are modern C-Bus compatible touchscreen interfaces available, including the Schneider C-Bus Wiser and third-party touch panel solutions. We advise on replacement options that retain compatibility with your existing network programming.
Can you repair the transmit circuit inside the touchscreen?
No — the 5080CTC is a sealed consumer unit with a failed IC inside. Component-level repair is not practical or economical. Replacement is the correct solution. We carry information on current compatible replacements and can advise on cost and options on-site.
My touchscreen goes blank for a few seconds then comes back — is this a screen fault?
Intermittent blanking while other switches work normally suggests the PSU bus voltage is marginal rather than the screen itself failing. A degraded PSU can't reliably power the touchscreen's higher current draw during boot-up. We test bus voltage on-site to confirm.
If my touchscreen is dead, can I still control the C-Bus system?
Yes. Wall switches function independently of the touchscreen. If your physical switches work, you have full local control of all programmed groups. Touchscreen failure does not disable the network — it only removes that control interface. Scheduling and app control may also continue if the CNI is functioning.
